Who are we?

Bona Bolo was initiated by private optometrists to provide eye care for the underprivileged leaners. The project addresses uncorrected refractive errors, which significantly impact learning as up to 80% of learning is vision- dependent

Inception

  • Inception: Initiated during the 2010 Soccer World Cup in South Africa to assist children with vision problems in enjoying the tournament.
  • Services: Conducted screenings at fan parks, referred children to optometrists, and provided spectacles.
  • Impact: Expanded beyond sports to empower learners in the classroom.
  • Volunteer Engagement: Unemployed youth assist with administration during screening events.

Funding Sources: Private entities, Winnie and Fortune Kunene Trust, and Iso Leso Optics.

Mission: Building partnerships to provide eye care for needy learners.

Vision: Our contribution is geared to the elimination of learning barriers due to uncorrected refractive error.

Goal: Ensure eye care services are accessible to needy learners.

Services Offered:

  • Eye Screening: Early detection in schools.
  • Referrals: For further examination and care.
  • Prescription Glasses: Free spectacles for learners in need.
  • Eye Health Education: Awareness for children and parents.
  • Other Interventions: Access to surgeries and treatment for pathologic conditions.
